I use the term "over San Francisco" in the title of this entry because my former college roommate Farran lives on top of Twin Peaks, overlooking the city. The views from her living room are stunning, and truly complement her cheery decor.
Farran made an amazing white sangria with sauvignon blanc and fruit soaked in vodka for two hours. She got to bring out her new Crate & Barrel goblets, and I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride that she is still as independent and creative as I remember. All the wine glasses in my little house are freebies from wineries, and while I could certainly afford a nice new glass set, I always put if off for the future. I make excuses like, "Well, maybe when I get a raise," or "Maybe when I get married," but there's no reason to wait. Farran's priorities are definitely in order: work hard, play harder.
I got to meet a ton of great people, which was refreshing since I didn't know anyone there besides Farran. I got to chat for awhile with Kendra, the UCSF nurse who knows Farran through their Dinner Club, and Karim, the Sun Microsystems engineer who met Farran at our favorite hookah bar - Kan Zaman.
Speaking of hookah, Farran has not one, not two, but THREE full-sized hookahs with the most amazing flavored tobacco I've tried yet. I used to have an inside joke with Brian over a bad experience we had in Singapore with the grape flavor, but Farran's version tasted like honey and berries. I was totally converted into liking grape again :)
Oh, and the food - out of control amazing. The girl knows how to make foodie friends, so I was dining on fresh organic EVERYTHING. Peppers with goat cheese on crackers, vegetarian peanut wraps, a mint and fruit salad, cupcakes, and my contribution of Italian pasta salad.
All in all, I managed to have a wonderful evening after struggling through a pretty rough morning. My weekend has finally begun (I have a Tue-Sat work week) so I'm looking forward to spending the day relaxing with the pups. I'm so glad I got to see my beautiful Farran again!
